LessAI ToolsAI plugin directory

Which AI development tool or plugin should you use?

Compare Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and development plugins by workflow, purpose and setup requirements. These guides use public documentation rather than installation-test scores.

Choose a development assistant, then add plugins for the task

For understanding code, making project changes or running checks, compare assistant entry points and account access first. Skills and MCP extend compatible assistants with task guidance and tool connections; they are not replacements for an assistant.

Operate a page, or investigate a page problem?

Playwright MCP focuses on navigating pages and operating controls and forms. Chrome DevTools MCP also exposes Chrome debugging and performance inspection. Both can operate browsers, so start with the task.

Task instructions, or a tool connection?

Skills supply task guidance, while MCP connects external tools. Identify whether you need a method or access to a tool before choosing.

Look up library docs, or understand existing code?

Context7 supplies library and framework documentation. Serena locates project code through functions, classes and references. They provide different context and can serve different parts of a task.

Before getting started

  1. Write down one concrete task rather than installing every popular plugin.
  2. Check your AI assistant, runtime and required permissions.
  3. Follow project setup guidance, then check the connection with a small task whose result you can verify.

Sources and ranking

This directory lists AI development plugins with public source code and a clear purpose. Browse by task, then open an introduction to learn what a project does, who it is for, and what you need to get started. It covers selected projects, not every AI plugin.

How do the three plugin types differ?

Tool connections (MCP) let AI assistants use external tools such as browsers, code repositories and databases. MCP is the protocol used for these connections.

Reusable skills give a compatible AI assistant instructions and guidance for a particular task.

Editor plugins run inside the software you use to write code, adding AI chat, completions or suggested edits.

How does “Most starred” work?

Projects are sorted by their total GitHub stars. Stars indicate interest; they are not downloads, active users or quality scores. A skill pack counts as one project.

What does “Recently updated” mean?

It uses the most recent code push, which may not be a new release. The 7-day filter checks that project update time; ranking still uses all-time stars. Each introduction shows when its star count was collected.

Introductions are based on public project documentation. These projects have not each been installed and tested here. Check the project documentation for setup, compatibility and service costs.
