Caveman

juliusbrussee/caveman

Make AI replies shorter, with optional tools for compressing context and choosing models.

What is Caveman?

Prepared by LessAI Tools from public project documentation

Caveman started as a skill that asks a coding assistant to explain things with fewer words. Its current package also includes context compression, model routing and reusable execution tools. You can choose the writing skill alone or review the larger package when you need more control over token use.

Caveman setup documentation

What you need

  • Use a supported coding assistant and choose either the standalone skill or the full package.
  • The full CLI installer requires Node.js 22.13 or later and supports macOS, Linux and Windows.

Limitations and costs

  • The author's savings figures are workload-specific measurements, not a guaranteed reduction in your bill.
  • The full package changes local agent setup; optional cloud routing sends full model requests to that service. Read the security and privacy documentation.
  • Model subscriptions and optional cloud services may cost money. This site has not installation-tested the package.

Caveman use cases

  • Shorter explanations without intentionally rewriting code
  • Optional context compression and model routing
  • A skill-only option alongside the larger local package

Official project & documentation

The project’s original description

🪨 why use many token when few token do trick. Viral skill + proxy for coding agents that cuts 65% of tokens by talking like a caveman.

Alternatives to Caveman for similar tasks

Matches the main use case first, then shared tasks and stars. Setup methods may differ.

  • Superpowers — Give AI a development workflow for clarifying requirements, planning, coding, and checking results.
  • Matt Pocock Skills — Clarify requirements, improve code structure, test changes and prepare a clear record for the next agent.
  • ECC — Give your coding assistant repeatable steps for planning, tests, reviews and project memory.

Sources and ranking

This directory lists AI development plugins with public source code and a clear purpose. Browse by task, then open an introduction to learn what a project does, who it is for, and what you need to get started. It covers selected projects, not every AI plugin.

How do the three plugin types differ?

Tool connections (MCP) let AI assistants use external tools such as browsers, code repositories and databases. MCP is the protocol used for these connections.

Reusable skills give a compatible AI assistant instructions and guidance for a particular task.

Editor plugins run inside the software you use to write code, adding AI chat, completions or suggested edits.

How does “Most starred” work?

Projects are sorted by their total GitHub stars. Stars indicate interest; they are not downloads, active users or quality scores. A skill pack counts as one project. Daily star growth is not shown without historical records.

What does “Recently updated” mean?

It uses the most recent code push, which may not be a new release. The 7-day filter checks that project update time; ranking still uses all-time stars. Each introduction shows when its star count was collected. Failed updates keep the last saved data.

Introductions are based on public project documentation. These projects have not each been installed and tested here. Check the project documentation for setup, compatibility and service costs. Refreshing this list only reads saved data; it does not start collection.
