Horizon setup documentation

What you need

  • The documented skill installation command needs Node.js 22.20 or later and a compatible assistant; -g installs the skill globally.
  • To run Horizon itself, prepare Python 3.11 or later and uv, clone the repository and run uv sync, then uv run horizon-wizard.
  • Configure source access and a supported model provider. Model/API charges and account availability depend on the selected provider.

Limitations and costs

  • Installing the Agent Skill does not install or configure the Python program, credentials or a running schedule.
  • Some sources need additional credentials or dependencies; enabling a source does not grant access to it.
  • AI summaries can omit context or contain errors. Open the original links for important decisions.

Based on public documentation; not individually installed and tested here.

What is Horizon?

Horizon is a personal news radar with an accompanying Agent Skill. Choose sources and reading interests, then collect items, remove duplicates and generate a briefing. The skill helps an assistant configure sources and profiles and operate the Python program. It is useful for keeping up with a topic; it does not guarantee complete coverage or replace checking the original source.

Horizon use cases

  • Collect from configured sources such as RSS, GitHub and Hacker News.
  • Use profiles to filter, analyze and deduplicate selected items before generating a briefing.
  • Configure delivery or let an AI assistant operate documented stages through the skill and optional MCP integration.

Alternatives to Horizon for similar tasks

Compare plugins for similar tasks and check their setup requirements.

  • DeerFlow — Run multi-step research and creation with an AI workspace that includes reusable skills.
  • Last30Days — Research recent discussions across social and web sources, then collect a source-linked brief.
  • Obsidian Skills — Give AI Obsidian guidance for linked notes, properties, canvases, and database-style views.

Sources and ranking

This directory lists AI development plugins with public source code and a clear purpose. Browse by task, then open an introduction to learn what a project does, who it is for, and what you need to get started. It covers selected projects, not every AI plugin.

How do the three plugin types differ?

Tool connections (MCP) let AI assistants use external tools such as browsers, code repositories and databases. MCP is the protocol used for these connections.

Reusable skills give a compatible AI assistant instructions and guidance for a particular task.

Editor plugins run inside the software you use to write code, adding AI chat, completions or suggested edits.

How does “Most starred” work?

Projects are sorted by their total GitHub stars. Stars indicate interest; they are not downloads, active users or quality scores. A skill pack counts as one project.

What does “Recently updated” mean?

It uses the most recent code push, which may not be a new release. The 7-day filter checks that project update time; ranking still uses all-time stars. Each introduction shows when its star count was collected.

Introductions are based on public project documentation. These projects have not each been installed and tested here. Check the project documentation for setup, compatibility and service costs.
