Getting Started

Where should I start if I do not understand MCP, Skills, or Plugins?

Start with your goal, not the terminology. Tell the site what you want AI to help you do, then use Find by Goal to choose the smallest useful setup.

Should I install as many AI tools as possible?

No. More tools can mean more configuration, overlapping capabilities, broader permissions, harder debugging, and more choices for the agent to get wrong.

  • An agent may also have a harder time choosing the right tool
  • Keep only tools that solve a real problem
Can I start without installing any plugins?

Yes. You can start a Codex web project with zero plugins. A working development environment, a clear AGENTS.md, and runnable lint, test, and build commands are enough for many tasks.

Does a Recommended verdict mean everyone should install the tool?

No. Read the verdict together with who the tool is for, who can skip it, the alternatives, and your existing workflow.

05

MCP / Skills / CLI

What is MCP?

MCP is a standard way for AI applications to connect to external tools and data. In plain English, it gives AI tools a common connection point.

What is the difference between a Skill and MCP?

In a simple mental model, a Skill helps an agent understand how to do the work, while MCP helps it connect to tools and data.

  • This is a simplified mental model rather than a formal technical definition
  • Skills and MCP can work together—and you may need neither
Should I use MCP or a CLI tool?

If a coding agent already runs commands reliably, try a CLI first for many development tasks. Consider MCP when you need structured tool calls, a specialized agent workflow, persistent state, or MCP ecosystem integration.

What happens if I install too many MCP servers?

You may increase tool-selection complexity, context use, configuration maintenance, permissions, and debugging effort.

  • There is no single fixed Token cost
  • Start with one or two servers you genuinely expect to use often
Is a Skill just a prompt?

No. A Skill can include instructions, workflows, references, scripts, templates, and other resources. The exact format depends on the platform.

04

Codex

Do I need MCP servers to build websites with Codex?

No. You can start with Codex, a working development environment, a concise AGENTS.md, and runnable lint, test, and build commands.

  • Add Playwright CLI or MCP only when the browser work actually calls for it
How do I add an MCP server to Codex?

Use codex mcp add. The complete guide covers add, list, get, login, and remove without repeating the entire workflow here.

codex mcp add
How do I remove an MCP server from Codex?

Run codex mcp remove with the configured server name. A good setup includes knowing how to remove tools you no longer need.

codex mcp remove <server-name>
Should AGENTS.md be as long as possible?

No. Treat AGENTS.md as a map, not an encyclopedia. Keep the key commands, directory guidance, project rules, and important constraints.

06

Video Creation

Do I need all six AI video tools?

Start with the video format. Avatar videos, React-driven data animation, HTML and UI motion, and website promos use different production routes.

  • Consider HeyGen for avatars
  • Consider Remotion for React or data animation
  • Consider HyperFrames for HTML or GSAP motion
  • Consider ImageGen for visual assets
  • Consider Website-to-HyperFrames for turning an existing site into a promo
  • Consider Generative Polish for a final visual finishing pass
  • You probably do not need all six video tools
Do I need both Remotion and HyperFrames?

Usually not. Remotion centers on React, timelines, and compositions; HyperFrames centers on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and GSAP-style motion.

  • Pick one main production route first
  • Add both only when you genuinely need both workflows
Are HeyGen and Remotion competing tools?

They are not the same category. HeyGen focuses on AI avatars and talking-head videos; Remotion focuses on code-driven video, animation, and timeline control.

Can ImageGen make a complete video by itself?

In this site's taxonomy, ImageGen generates or edits images and visual assets. It is not a complete video timeline or production framework.

Are Website-to-HyperFrames and HyperFrames separate, peer-level tools?

No. Website-to-HyperFrames is a specialized workflow or sub-skill in the HyperFrames ecosystem for turning an existing website into a promo video.

Is Generative Polish an official OpenAI Skill?

No. The Generative Polish entry covered here is a third-party open-source Creative Production workflow, not an official OpenAI Skill.

03

Installation and Safety

What should I check before installing an MCP server or Skill?

Check whether the source is official or trusted, which permissions and data it can access, whether it needs an API key, whether it runs local commands, and whether it solves your actual problem.

Should I remove an MCP server or Skill that I no longer use?

If you no longer use it, consider removing or disabling it to reduce configuration, permissions, maintenance, and tool-selection complexity.

  • Install less. Choose better.
Should I run installation commands from the site without checking them?

No. Confirm the source, current version, runtime, permissions, and installation target first. LessAI Tools provides decision support and operational references; no command fits every environment automatically.

About LessAI Tools

Is LessAI Tools an AI plugin marketplace?

No. LessAI Tools does not aim to list the most tools. It helps you judge what is worth adding, who it fits, what you can skip, which alternatives exist, and how to install or remove it.

Why does LessAI Tools so often tell me not to install something?

Because tool count is not the goal. If a CLI or built-in capability already works, or two tools overlap heavily, adding another layer rarely helps.

Is a LessAI Tools verdict an absolute conclusion?

No. A verdict is an editorial judgment for a particular use case. Your needs, platform, budget, and workflow can lead to a different choice.

Start with the goal, not the tool name

You do not need to memorize the differences between every MCP server, Skill, and Plugin before doing useful work. Define the outcome first, then choose the smallest setup that supports it.
